Troll in a 17′ bass boat?

Should I even try this? Last time I was on Mille lacs with my bass boat, I made it out from Isle to the Highway July Bar going 5mph and getting lightly splashed in 15mph northerly winds. It was tough, wife didn’t like it so we headed back to isle bay.

If I go up there to troll around cove bay and stay near shore at a nearby reef, will I be ok to troll? or does that area get pretty big rollers?

Depends on wind direction and wind speed.

That will depend on the direction of the wind. Wind (10-15) from the south will still make waves in Cove Bay area reefs, but they will be on the smaller side as they haven’t had a chance to build. They will build pretty good in that area with a north or westerly wind.

Basically in your situation I’d be fishing the windward side of the lake.

use your trolling motor…that is what I’ve always have done and do. more precise trolling to since you are in the front.

Thanks. I figured I’d have to move to where the wind was coming from. I’m not worried about trolling precision or the like, more worried that is have to hunker down to troll without being thrown side to side in the waves.
I stayed in isle bay all day last time and caught a bunch of perch with a little runny nose.

That’s one of the nice things about Fall trolling… You can always find an area close enough to shore to keep tucked in out of the wind. Just watch the wind forecast on iWindsurf and head to the upwind side of the lake and you’ll be good to go

Wouldn’t one be able to adjust if you can’t troll? Maybe control drift, windsock, anchor, cast? Where there is a will there is a way. Good luck up there man hope the wife and yourself land a big one
