I’d just like to tag onto Derek and Bobber’s reports with similar findings this last weekend. Fishing the deep gravel/sand transition areas in the 24 foot range during the day put fish in the boat. Lindy rigs with jumbo leeches drifting the South – Southeast corner of the lake. Areas off Big Point, 3, 4 and 5 mile all kicked out fish to the guys who put in their time.

Wind blowing into our side of the lake both Saturday and Sunday made it interesting getting around. Running and gunning was not an option. Working an area thoroughly and waiting out the bites was my strategy. I was getting bit about once every 45 minutes to an hour with a keeper about every 3rd or 4th fish. Most of the toss backs were shorties! (Note, fished alone this weekend, only one line down.)

The evening bite was very good starting about 10pm. Again, seeing a lot of fish in the 9-11 inch range.

I fished for smallmouth for a couple hours each day without getting a bite last weekend.

The one above went in the box.

One of those short ones that have been showing up in pretty good numbers. These fish all go back!

All the talk of the shoties is a darn good thing for ensuring the future of walleye fishing on mille lacs! Nice pics Jon… save some smallies for me for when I come up in August!
