    May 5th – 10:00 AM

I was up this weekend & found 32-36″ of ice… It was starting to get soft but now there’s a good 6″ of snow insulating it again. There’s definitly a chance we break the record, but in typical MN fashion I think we come up just short.

At the rate we’re going, I’m taking June 13th. We should be able to sneak in a few more snowstorms between now and then

What constitutes Ice-Out to you for this contest, three choices:

    1) The DNR’s label as Ice-Out?
    2) The ability to travel from SW corner to NE Corner?
    3) The Tribal members Netting the Spawning Walleye’s?

Option #2 (SE to NW actually). I believe this is also what DNR uses for ice out

I’ll be getting married by the big lake may 4th so may 3rd would be nice! I’m just interested in seeing if the tribes and sport anglers will be able to coexist. Is there a chance they could wait till fall to net?

According to a local, there is still 30+ inches of ice on the lake as of last Friday. I have no idea how accurate his assessment is/was. I do know, there is very little open water between here and Mora. Some of the smaller lakes have some small open pools around the edges.

    I’m going with May 9th.

Pretty much the whole lake has 30″+ on it right now. Here’s a photo courtesy of my friends up at Fisher’s Resort showing 33″ of ice as of Saturday 1/2 mile out from the resort.

The good news the ice is starting to get soft, the bad news is there are still close to 6″ of show insulating the ice

At this point I’m almost hoping that it sticks around long enough for me to find a way to ice fish on opener… We might have to fire up my friend’s fan boat to do it but man would that be a great story
