Haven’t seen many posts on the bite this weekend on the big pond. Heading up next weekend with my sons, so any info on how the bite was would be great!

It was slow for our group. We fished the eastside rocks and Malmo sand breaks with a few fish getting caught.
Check out the Mille Lacs reports on the reports forum!

I’ll get out a few more times this week and get them dialed in..

I don’t fish the Pond on opening weekend but from the reports I gathered the bite was very tough. If you are used to pulling snells shallow this years opener was tough.

Sounds like the best bite came trolling cranks in deep water. And, after seeing Dee Zee’s report that appears to be true.

I have never seen boats scattered on the pond on the opener like I did this past weekend. Everyone was looking for the bite. It was slow, but fish where being caught. My brother and his partner caught 3 nice 19 inchers out in no mans land in 26ft pulling lindys Sunday mid morning. That’s fishing!

Fishing was slow for us also. A 26″ in 24 ft of water, 24″ on the north sand and a 17″ off the dock. Go figure. We were marking fish in 30 feet and probably should have went after them like Steve did.

Did get to meet Bobber, Hooks, Dman, and others around a bonfire Friday night. Doesn’t get any better than that.

Hey Putz, good meeting you too.
Can’t wait for next weekend. Just talked to my son, he’s packing back up and heading back up for the week.

He needs to fish hard before starting work for the summer, he won’t get much time off I bet.

Tuff bite in my boat as well. There were more steaks grilling than fish frying at our camp. lol

The only walleye that came to my boat was this chunky 22.5 fish that bit a liny/leech in 27 feet of water mid-day Saturday.

Looking forward to next weekend. Hope it warms up!

On Saturday morning my best luck was on the sand in 14 feet rigging, I took 3 keepers and lost another keeper at the boat when my lone broke . My partner could net even catch a cold, he got zip. Saturday evening I caught 2 more keepers and my partner caught 1 keeper fishing the rocks in about 6 feet of water on the south end. Sunday we managed 3 fish that were about 20.5″ on a rock bar in about 22 feet rigging.

Did any of you notice the abundance of jumbo perch? I have not seen that many in a while.

My dad and I went out of Malmo 6:00 a.m., spent morning pulling planer boards and DD HuskyJerks (silver, gold), 6 hours = 4 fish, a 28.5,22,22,19. We where the only people that were not rigging from Agate Bay Reef to Carlsona, saw 3 other walleyes caught all day. Marked a few fish from 15′-24′. Picked up at noon, headed to our small private lake east of Aitkin, put the hurt on some “Bigmouth Crappie” fishing Chompers Sinkos in the wood, and jerking Rattling Roques on the 6′-8′ flats. Can’t wait till the water warms up a bit. Here is the 28.5.

Here is the Old Man’s big fish of the day, 35″ pike on our lake. Crunched a Roque in 8′ of water.

Thanks for the fun trip Dad!

It appears that our group of three had a good weekend. We boated 21 walleyes on the east side pulling rigs with leeches on an 8-10′ leader. The fishing was substantially better before all of the boats started showing up, typically before 0900 hrs. Shallow rock humps surrounded by deeper sand were the key. The largest was 28″(released), 10 walleyes went in the box. We caught no walleyes shorter than 16″.

Yap — Slow bite this weekend.

Between 3 boats and 9 lines, we picked up 6 keepers in front of Fisher’s on Saturday and another 4 on Sunday. We also grabbed a couple on 2 mile Sunday. All of our fish came in about 16 feet of water using a single bead and a red hook 6 foot snell. We also grabbed a half dozen jumbo’s along the way.

I’m just thankful I got to spend some quality time with the buddies this weekend — eating some fresh walleye tonight made it that much better!!

It was quite slow for the group I was with on opener. We did manage 2 keepers and released a 24″ and 25″.

How many of you caught the 9″ to 12″ fish that are supposed to be available? I only had 1 and expected more action from that age class.

Here is a nice 26″ + fish cpr’d by Jon J on Thursday evening. We were bobber fishing on my favorite early season rock reef.

This past weekend the bite was off for my boat…….I spent around 8 hrs total on the water both Sat.and Sunday with only 4 walleye caught. The wind, rain and cool temperatures made it a difficult weekend to be out. It was much warmer on the couch in front of the fireplace!
Sure today it’s calm and we have bright sunshine out…..go figure!

I took my boys out on the lake over the weekend and it was tough! Steady, cold NE wind and rain kept us inside more than on the lake. No eyes, but my guys reeled in a dozen perch ranging in size from a nice jumbo to a 4 incher. At least their bobbers went under, which kept their interest. There were a couple eyes caught in the camp, but those guys battled the elements all day Saturday. Sunday was a complete washout. Better luck next time, I hope!!
