This season I have invested in trolling equipment such as new rods, line counter reels, planer boards, and rod holders. This technique/presentation will be new to me this year. Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

If I were to troll some Shad Raps this weekend, how do you get the SR5 down in that 15-20 foot depth? The Trollers Bible indicates the max depth is about 9-10 feet for the SR5 and a little deeper for the SR7.

The numbers in the Bible are usually based on trolling with #10 Lb mono. I’ve been able to consistently get those #5 RS’s down to 11 – 12 fet on Mille Lacs on 6 Lb diameter braided line. To get down to 20′ you’ll need to use a snap weight, or my preference, lead core line.

    Hello fish any time,

My approach to trolling Mille Lacs This Weekend will be to troll shallow rock, or rock/gravel/sand transition areas no deeper than 10 feet. Mostly trying to keep the boat in that 6-10 foot range during early and late low-light conditions or anytime after dark. With the cold front firmly settling in and low water temps, I’ll be keeping the boat speed as slow as possible. Maybe even dropping the bow mount instead of using the kicker.

I’m not sure how aggressive those fish will be that are hanging out in that 20-25 feet of water. If I mark those fish and wanted to get them to bite, I’d go with a live bait presentation such as a lindy rig and leech or crawler.

Good Luck and let us know how ya do!

I will target fish at those depths with a 1 oz. snap weight. I typically let out 75 ft. of line snap on the weight then let out another 50 ft. of line. I’m not exactly sure what depth this runs but it puts suspended fish in the boat with # 5 shad raps.

The trolling bible has a 50-50 method too.
