    Tagged fish

You caught a tagged fish at Mille Lacs?
Numbered plastic “tags,” which resemble a short length of coated electrical wire, were anchored under the dorsal fin of over 20,000 Mille Lacs walleye. Some muskies and northern pike have also been tagged in previous years.

Map to help you describe where you caught your tagged fish

When releasing a tagged fish, DO NOT remove the tag(s)! Jot down the number on the tag and report your catch to the DNR.

When keeping a tagged fish, please return the tag to the DNR.

When reporting a catch of a tagged fish please include the following information:

    TAG NUMBER
    Lake
    Species
Did you release or harvest the fish?
If released, was the tag removed?
    Date caught
Location on lake that it was caught (see map to help describe location)
    Length of the fish
Were you fishing from a boat, launch, or shore?
    Your name, address, phone number
    E-mail address
    Please report this information by:

    E-mailing [email protected]
    Calling
    1-218-927-3751 – Aitkin
    1-888-646-6367 ? DNR Info center
    Or sending information to:
    DNR Fisheries
    P.O. Box 138
    Aitkin, MN 56431
(Postage paid cards are available at public accesses and businesses around Mille Lacs Lake)

In return, you will receive a history of the fish you report, which will include: where and when it was tagged; how long it was when it was tagged; and information on whether it had been previously caught and released.

The information that the DNR gathers from this study is critical to answering many questions about the Mille Lacs walleye population.

Funny you should make this post! You and Hook had one with a tag in it, and you didn’t know it until weigh in! LOL!
I wonder how many netted walleye the Indians get are tagged, and whether that information is passed on to the DNR?

Well, that’s a interesting question. Do they report them?
