Does anybody know what the ice is like out of Garrison?

We have found it to be flat, except where pressure ridges form. In the early spring it can be quite slippery if you’re walkin’ without cleats.
Later this month when the moon is full, something cool happens on the southeast corner of the lake at sunset…if the sky is clear. The Ashinabes knew about this.
You can check for yourself on the Modis Today polar satelite
site. This will tell you if the ice is frozen at Garrison.
Use 250 magnification…very cool site to view around the third week of April.
Don’t worry about when it will be thick enough for your SUV.
As of a few minutes ago, there was only about 17 hours left til the end of the world, according to the Mayan cults.

Last weekend I was hearing 1-4″ which is consistent with what we found most of the places that we checked. It will definitly be walkable by this weekend but I would be very hesitant to drive an ATV out without throughly checking beforehand. Anywhere with even a little snow cover still had very thin ice last weekend.

    Good Luck!

Just as Will mentioned last weekend the ice was VERY iffy. I fished about 1/2 mile off shore last Saturday and I had to walk only on cracks. the crack allowed water up and to become thicker ice, step away from the crack and it was SOFT 3″. Through with one hit on the spud.

It has been cold this week with little to no snow cover this week. Do be weary of snow covered spots and check often as you progress. I am going to take the 3 wheeler out (I hope) but not before I walk it out checking.

Treat the ice as unsafe this weekend and KNOW what you are walking/driving on.
