My Dad caught this walleye on Mille Lacs this past weekend. When we got it in the boat all you could see was this tail sticking out. The walleye was about 25 inches and we think the Tullibee was around 13 or 14 inches before he became dinner. For people who say the walleyes are on the skinny side, this fish must read these forums and felt self-conscious.

This year the fish are deeper than in years past. I run the 4-8 foot range over the rock reefs and this year we found it hard to find fish up top. All the fish we got were in the 15-19 foot range. And if you look at your graph at those depths you would know why. Yep the Tullibee are stacked up waiting to move up. Do not know if this also has to do with the zebera musseles pushing the bait fish out deep.

I’ve been fishing deep-ish (8-11 ft) and doing fairly well. It’s been fun watching almost all the boats up trolling shorelines/shallow reefs…and then leave.

Did your dad snag that fish? How the heck would it have bitten his bait with that big ol’ thing in its mouth?!?! Wow!

#7 shad rap both hooks in the mouth, we were thinking the same thing.

A couple years back here on the Bay of Green Bay I caught a Walleye on A F-18 Rapala which had a half of Whitefish sticking out its throat.Remember they are really feeding up for the winter so they cant get enough but they should finish one before trying to choke down another.

Interesting catch! I’m guessing you saved that fish’s life.

Nah. That oily old tulibee was just minutes from being all the way down. They are soft finned and I’m sure that the walter would have been burping tulibee breath in a few minutes.
I have never seen a fish wash up at my place where the was another fish in the dead ones mouth. Plugs? Once in my 60 some years.

looks to me that it puked up the fish after it ate the crankbait.

we had a similar experience happen in Lac Seul this year. Nice 27 inch eye yacked up a mostly digested fish about the same size as the tulibe in this picture.
    Makes for a fun story
