Wind, wind and more wind. Big northwest winds, with a day or two of gales from the south, have hampered most anglers plans this past week. Many had to move west to get out of the wind and big waves.

Those that braved and fought the winds, fished at night trolling the shorelines. Some boats over the weekend had as many as “40 fish” nights. Some didn’t fair well either. There was no such thing as being too shallow, as many fish were caught inside the weedlines in less than 5 ft. of water. The trollers, using mainly stick type baits, saw few keepers under the 17″ range. But some fished bobber rigs in deeper water showing good results also. Good catches of keepers mixed into the deep bobbering boats came from 14ft. to 17ft., yet others fished in 30ft. off any relative structure at night and had good results anchored with the bobber rigs too. Despite the gale force winds, catch reports were pretty good the past few days. Warmer temps coming the next few days could prolong the good bite but who knows…

Leaf watching is about over but grouse hunters are liking it. Bow hunters are seeing deer and a few have tagged good ones. Rifle hunters are starting to get out and check stands out too.

If your fish house needs work, best get on it while the getting is warm! Let us know if you need our guys to do any work for you in that regard.

THANK YOU all so much for a great week at The Red Door! With some Indian summer on the way, we look forward to seeing many of you again soon, before we have to start thinking ice on the big lake. THANKS……
