With the hard maple leaves almost at full peak fall colors, all the talk now is night fishing.
Very little fishing pressure this past week reflected slow fishing reports for most. Anglers targeting walleyes during the day picked up a few fish doing about everything one could think of in about every place and depth one could try. There are still fish being caught lead core trolling in the basin, some being caught on live bait rigs on the mudflats and some being caught along the shoreline breaks on bobber rigs. Just not alot in any one area doing any one thing. So, putting the time in during the daytime will make the rods bend some but it has not been great by any means. Night trolling has been spotty but has been producing better than the daytime. Trollers are having to deal with alot of weeds–more so than in past years is the reports we get. With water temps in the mid-50’s and the moon getting bigger, the next 2-3 weeks should be very productive in 4 to 12 ft of water trolling stick baits of all sizes and colors after dark. Don’t be afraid of fishing from 4 am. to daylight instead of the evening to midnight time frame only.
No one has reported any muskie action to us this week.
Smallmouth action has been mixed in with the walleye action by the shallow trollers. One boat took pictures after weighing a giant 5 lb. 9 oz. smallie.
Bow and arrow deer hunters are seeing lots of deer in our area. Grouse hunters are getting some action and that will get better as more leaves get out of the way soon.
It’s camera time now! The leaves are every shade of red and yellow one can imagine! The walleyes swimming in the moon light are waiting for you all to make them photo’d memories! The next few weeks will be busy so call early and leave late. THANK YOU everyone for a great week at The Red Door. We look forward to seeing you all soon.
