Going through the crank boxes and taking inventory on my favorites for the fall trolling on Mille Lacs. Wondering what new colors and styles everyone is looking at or is it your old standbys. Wabasha I know you may have a Hot steel or two in your arsenal Like the action on the Rapala flat rap especially early in the fall with a tad more wobble than your traditional stick baits. Would like to add some Bomber long A’s to my collection, what colors do you guys prefer with them?

You will rarely find my boat trolling shallow water without at least one rod running a rattlin’ rogue! Clown is my favorite color that’s easy to find, but if yoy can get a purple/chrome or purple/gold with the silver gamakatsu hooks they are even better, especially when the moon is bright.
Early season trolling while the water is warmer shad baits and husky jerks can be the ticket with HJ12 Tennessee shad and SSR7 blue/silver being my favorites

We added a whole line of Shallow #12 Huskey Jerks specifically for the fall trolling bite. I think some hot ones will be Purpledecsant, Purple Haze, Baby Walleye, Electric Perch, Fire Minnow, Pink Scale and Sunrise Craw.

After I get back from the Cass Lake MWC Tournament in a couple weeks, I plan to hit Mille Lacs for some night trolling from Mid September all the way to ice and will report back on what’s working in my boat.

Would you paint requested color patters on cranks?

If you can find (good luck) the glass purple perch HJ12 or HJ14 buy every single one they have! That bait has out fished everyother bait I own. It doesn’t matter moon up moon down clouds or clear it catches fish. Can somebody please tell me why rapala discontinues my favirote colors?

You can buy glass purple perch HJ’s right off the Rapala website. I just checked and they have them in all sizes in stock.

If I was limited to one crank for fall trolling on Milly, it would be that HJ12 Tennessee shad.

Probably due to upper midwest open water product sales are probably less than 1% of total market share. Even the best selling product may not be worth the effort at the end of the day.

I didn’t even have to look, and I knew that answer.

with all this talk of the hj12 tennessee shad i just couldn’t help myself today. I’m all stocked up now in 10’s, 12’s and 14’s. Now hopefully the fish start biting soon after sundown so the fiance doesn’t get bored and want to go back to the cabin early

I have another question in reguards to this post.

Clear sky, full moon, bright moon light shining down.

Now what color pattern do I turn to.

If its clear and the moon is bright use a bright color clown, pink, white or any of the crome colors. If its cloudy go dark gold, purple, black or red.
