I finally took the plunge and tried a little leadcore! It took me a week or so to gather enough information to go out and set up a couple rods. I was a google searching machine that week. I settled in on 10 feet of 12lb trilene for a leader swiveled to 7 colors of 18lb leadcore and 10feet of 12lb trilene backing. I spooled it on my Cabelas depthmaster rods and I was off for the big pond! Due to the heat this weekend I found it hard to find a fishing partner so my maiden voyage was all by my lonesome. I hit the south east corner of the lake about 1 pm. I launched the boat and headed for 30ft of water. I was using my driftsock to idle the 150 horse down to 1.8-2.1mph. It took me awhile to figure out releasing line and getting to the proper depth. I still have a notion it’s just as easy to get to the general depth then release tell you feel it hit bottom and come up a few cranks. After that you can base your depth off of your locator. Anyhoot I suppose I traveled a few hundred yards pulling a shallow shad before the first 22inch came in the boat. Yes it was right out in the middle of nowhere. It was in such a weird spot I looked at the fish and asked him what he was doing out here? No answer so I let him go… I switched around to a few different cranks just to get a feel and look on the rod but overall I landed 6 fish between 22 and 26 inches had a pile of fun and should be back out this Friday trying it again. The mayflies were terrible without any wind! Sorry about some of the pics but taking pictures alone is tough.

That setup should work well for you.

    nice work!
FYI I would add more backing until you almost have a full spool after your lead and leader. With your current setup if you get a ski to train wreck your bait you may be in trouble! I have had them rip on a couple colors in the blink of an eye.
