Fall fishing trip ideas

I’m starting from scratch – I have never fished Mille Lacs but was thinking about a fall trip for pike (and smallmouth). Good choice or not??? Don’t know the lake at all and if one area is better for pike, that would help also as well as a place to stay.

Vineland Bay is good for Pike. Also it’s close to a landing. Most of the bays can be pretty good but if I had to start somewhere it would be Vineland. Get into around 12′ of water and go from there. Trolling or casting will both work. If trolling don’t be afraid to go fast. 3 MPH is not to fast for Pike! Be sure you set your drag correctly. Have all your tools and net handy. Muskie in Mille Lacs are very common, please handle them carefully and do a good release. If you are unfamiliar on unhooking and handling Muskie please go to one of the Muskie sites. They will have a detailed description on how to do it.

On a selfish note, for political reasons I urge you NOT to use Eddie’s resort or the Casino for lodging. If you need lodging there are plenty of family owned resorts on the Lake that will be more then willing to help you.

    Good luck and have fun!!

We put some dandy pike in the boat when we go to Mille Lacs in Oct.We fish them for a couple hrs before we start night trolling for the jumbo walleye.
Small mouth we pick up alot up there also.I think if you went after them on purpoise you would not be disapointed.
Always the chanch at a 50 inch Muskie too.
