The bite on Mille Lacs is awesome right now! If you get the opportunity to go and fish – getter done!
I got out with a good friend of mine on Saturday and we were able to bring 31 eyes to the boat. We filled the box and the rest were between 22 and 27 inches.
Fish are still hitting 8 foot rigs tipped with a red hook and a leech. Best rigging speeds for my boat has been .4 to .6 mph. However, if you find a good bug hatch don’t be afraid to drop the corks on them. Even mid day if you find an active school, they will drown your corks.

Shhh…Don’t tell anyone but I wouldn’t over look the blades and bouncer bite. Best speeds were 1.0 to 1.3 mph.

Good Luck – It may be a couple weeks until I make it back so I will look forward to your reports

Nice job Chris! Great to hear that you are catching them using a variety of tactics.

Are you finding more bug hatches on the mud or in the sand?

Thanks Will – Happy BDay man.

The cold beverages had to wait because we participated in the MTT but the cold ones came right off the water.

For me it has been the mud but I have also heard good reports still from the sand. I just have not been up there.

Great report – thanks a bunch.

Me and a great friend and his grand child are headed up there this Friday through Sunday noon….We’ll be mostly on the South end, but I would go around to the North sand if I knew if the landing at Wealthwood was good to launch from…last year at this time I couldn’t even get the bunks wet…Anyone know if if one can get in there????

You should be fine, but I’d say just pay the $10 and lauch out of Barnavelds or Red Door. If it’s windy having a nice ramp and protected harbor is well worth the few $$.

I don’t know about now after all the rain, but Wed May 16th I pulled in there from the lake to let the dogs run and it was REALLY shallow – I have a jackplate on my tiller and had issues trying to pull out from the dock and for the next 20 yards or so. As Will said, pay to launch at any of the resorts up there is worth is for the protected harbor and securing of your stuff.

Good luck, I am trying to get back up there tomorrow with my daughter.
