Had the chance to hit ML on Thursday with my dad and cousin. The weather was perfect, sunny, warm, and almost no wind. This was my first time on the lake with my boat and I have no go to spots for fishing in the summer so we were going to be winging it a bit. We also were just doing a day trip up and back which meant we would only be able to fish during the middle of the day.

We launched at liberty and had a spot that we wanted to try near there that we saw on the map chip but when we got there it had around 15 boats sitting on it and we didn’t want to join the group. After looking at the map again we picked another point and headed to that, when we got to this one no boats.

We finally started fishing and it took a while but we finally had a fish in the boat, it was about 12″ . There were fish there so we worked the area a little longer but nothing else was interested so we moved to the next spot. We continued to move around looking for active fish and also were constantly changing our presentation until we started to get on fish. Finally ended up rigging live bait slow on the deep edges to get the fish to hit. We ended the day with 8 over 23″ with about 20-25 fish caught before we pulled out around 4, biggest was 27.5″. Pictures are my dad’s and my double, my 27.5″ and my cousins 23″.

Looks to me like you only caught 4 fish

Glad to see you guys had a good time and got on fish. I am surprised with the big tourney going on up there it looks like there wasn’t a boat around.

95% of the boats we saw had a tourney number on them, would have been really quiet otherwise. We stayed out of their way and away from the crowds, plenty of places to fish without having to sit on one another out there. We were near boats a few times but it was never too crowded and everyone seemed to give room. I didn’t know that the tourney was going on, i thought they were prefishing. Makes sense now, one of the boats next to us said he’d like to jump in our boat and take our fish when we caught a couple keepers near him. He was just joking around but I didn’t know he was actually looking for fish to weigh.

Looks like you would have had a nice stringer for the tourney! Good trip.

Great job for being on the lake for the first time in your boat! Thanks for the report and I’m guessing your boat will be back again soon.
