first off iam not anti tournamemt. i have fished in them and for a number of years, weighed fish for the wave wacker. going by the dnr’s ssb numbers, the ssb is 50% less than it was when the netting started. going by the dnr numbers, the lake in trouble and the time to do something is now, not after it crashes. in the years that i weighed fish at the wave wacker the number of over 28 inch fish has dropped. in my own fishing, the number of fish over 26 inches that i have caught has dropped. it looks to me that the lake is in a downward sprial that will end up like red lake. because we, the tax payers of minnesota, will be the ones who pay for and fix the problem, we have to be proactive and i think a 5 year moratoriam on fishing touraments is something that will cut down on the total hook and line quota. i understand that yours is a cpr tourney, but there is still a mortality rate attached to the total catch, that counts against the hook and line quota. i don’t want to see a 14 to 16 inch slot again. heres a question for you…. would you rather fish tournaments on mille lacs or have the lake shutdown to walleye fishing in july because we are closing in on the hook and line quota??? ottertail, leech, winnie, red, just to name a few, would be great lakes to have a tournament on durning the time frame that you are looking at. this is just my opinion and by no means do i despise anybody for putting on or fishing in tournaments here on mille lacs, i just think we have to stay ahead of the eightball before there is a total walleye crash here on mille lacs. you have to understand that the dnr manages this lake for the netters not the hook and line sportsman. even if the lake is shut down to hook and line fisherman, the netting will still take place in the spring.
