Anybody ever stay at McQuoid’s. Thinking about making a short trip this June. Maybe 4 days with the wife. Anybody ever stay in the Hotel rooms. Stopped and talked with them at the Sport Show. Seem like a nice group. Any info will help. Thanks

JackApril 1, 2012 at 12:16 pm #1054627I’ve always stayed at McQuoid’s for the MTT tournaments and have never had an un pleasant experience.
They have nice Motel rooms, a good parking area, close to Public launch, bait and necessities and have a nice yard/ picnic and grill area.
I have saved tons by using those facilities after a day on the water.
I have no association with them, just a nice place.
That’s my $.02April 1, 2012 at 2:48 pm #1054656Depends on what you want. McQuoids offer’s a warm dry bed and access to the lake. A resort will offer that plus typically a beach, restaurant, docks and a more family atmosphere. As a kid, we stayed at the mom and pops places and I think it made for more memories…funny stories… than a motel/hotel type destination. A campfire every night was a must
April 2, 2012 at 3:48 pm #1054959Did you ever have any problems getting to the docks when the water was low?
April 2, 2012 at 5:30 pm #1054996The water in the channel is always shallow but I have never had a time when you couldn’t get up to the launch ramp. The resort is only another 50 yards away.

I can’t say that I’ve stayed there since we have a palce right up the road in Malmo but I can assure you that it is run by great people. If you want just a basic room and plan on fishing the structure on the South end of the lake I’d say McQuoid’s is probably the way to go.
Here are several other options with a brief description of loaction/ammenities:
Appledorn’s (SE)
Over the last several years Paul has done an awesome job of of turning it into a first class operaton and they just added 2 brand new docks this year. I have a few friends who stay there and absolutely wouldn’t go anywhere else b/c of how well Paul treats them.Hunter’s (East)
As people have mentioned runs a great operation and also has full bar/restaurant right on site that serves a great breakfasts and has the best pizza on the lake. They also are willing to cook up your fish after a day on the water.Fisher’s (NE)
Is out of Malmo and has been been my home base for years. They have nicest/most protected harbor on the lake. If you want to be able to leave your boat in the water while you are there and very family friendly environment I think Fishers protected harbor/secluded camp sites are 2nd to none. If you do happen to stay there shoot me a PM and I’m always willing to give you a quick rundown of the fishing in the Malmo area.Red Door (North)
Offers the best combination of a resort enviroment as well as motel rooms on the lake. If you want quick access to mud flats (which will probably be going strong by June with the early Spring) Red Door is the place.I think you’ll find that with very few exceptions all of the resorts/motels up there are run by good people and each has very loyal group of regular customers.
Shoot me a PM if you want further info
