I had heard that too, but no details… If it was 2 1/2 miles out I’d say they were driving where they shouldn’t have been Exactly why folks like Red Door have been so hesitant to let people out
January 19, 2012 at 5:04 pm #1029990There was a truck that went in on Monday night. We could see the lights from the emergency vehicles that night and later found out it was a truck that went in. From what I could gather they were striaght out of Barnacles and if it was 2.5 miles they were asking for it. I had a friend try to get to the mud (on 4-wheeler)on Monday and they could get about 150′ from East Flat before they ran into 1-2 inches of ice and even some open water. It’s going to be bad news if people start trying to fish the mudflats, it’s all going to freeze over and look the same from on top of the ice.

Hey guys…For all of you calling up asking about the rumors of a truck going in lake and if things are safe…this is for you! Yes, a truck did go in…however, they did not go out of our resort and were driving obviously in an area we have advised unsafe! The ice is good 14 inches out of our place! If you stay within the advised area you will be fine! People are still doing great fishing catching perch and walleye! Hope everyone has a great rest of week!
January 20, 2012 at 4:36 am #1030296I talked to a friend back home and the story he had heard was that the driver got turned around and thought he was heading towards shore. When they broke thru the front end went in first and the people were able to escape before it went all the way down.
I hear the ice isn’t safe enough to get it out though so the DNR fines are going to add up… Sounds like an expensive mistake but at least everyone survived.

February 2, 2012 at 1:48 pm #1034578It is out Pictures of recovery
I see the Lime Green Lake pass still on the mirror…?? They went out of somewhere…
February 2, 2012 at 3:57 pm #1034633Very cool pics and process. I’ve never seen it done. Hope it never happens to me!
February 2, 2012 at 5:18 pm #1034680all cleaned up! How would you like to be the one driving across the ice some night or even in a white out and hit those chunks of ice! I ripped a whole suspension and ski off one side of the snowmobile when I didn’t veer off in time to avoid a chunk from a spearing house which moved.
February 2, 2012 at 7:45 pm #1034748wonder what the total bill was including fines and pulling it out?
February 2, 2012 at 7:45 pm #1034749yeah, they float them back in the hole and rope off the area for a few days Hitting one of them at night, doing 80 on a sled..OH MY
Actually, there was no fine. They were given 30 days to get out, they didn;t want anyone else going out there, until it was safe. That only makes sense

February 2, 2012 at 10:13 pm #1034792for all who are wondering, your insuurance co. pays the bill, as long as you have full coverage.
February 2, 2012 at 11:18 pm #1034817Chomps is correct. Only bill should be your deductable. This includes recovery. It is standard to be given 30 days to retrieve your vehicle before fines start. You are usally fully covered if you have a 4×4 truck. It is covered under your off-road coverage. Does not affect your insurance rates as it is covered under your comp not collision so you don’t need full coverage. There is no way I would drive on a lake unless I knew I was covered. Are you covered?
February 3, 2012 at 5:00 pm #1035090Yep I put my ATV in years ago..cost me a $100 “tip” for the diver I hired
February 5, 2012 at 3:41 am #1035509Funny, the boy sitting on the ice blocks is one of my students. Nice kid. He was telling me about the recovery, his father was one of the fellas working there.
