Well me and my good friend Cody Headed to mille Lacs for the first time this season. We decided to fish the NW side of the lake and he paid off. Got set up about 930 a little later then I wanted but o well. Fished 12 to 15 FOW with 4 to 5 inch silver shiners thinking we would catch some pike during the day then switch it up when it got closer to evening but it was nonstop action till about noon with walleye after walleye all were between 19 and 25 inches biggest was 25. And a few pike. We probley missed more than we caught. We would walk up to the tip up with them just spinning then they would stop when we went to set the hook there was nothing there. We caught a few more after sun set then headed off around 630. One good tip the base camp and the wind was not a good combination that shack wanted to take off like a rocket. Time to buy a flip over style next. One last thing that crack opened back up so be safe we stayed way away from it

if you head much further north out of Liberty you will fins a fresh crack somewhere between Hunters and Agate bay. Be careful out of Liberty that ice near Big point is a disaster. Not to mention the NW side, you can drive the N road from Malmo to Garrison and see open water. Be careful.

I saw quite a few trucks on the ice today, with the ice varriances I have seen, you wont catch me out there in my truck. Over all BE CAREFUL. Im sure come Monday I will hear of a truck that went through the ice, Dont let it be you.

    Lars,

a very valuable report…nice to see confirmation from a week ago that they are still in there.

not sure if you saw James comments from last weekend, but he and i experienced the same inefficiency when it came to tipups. we went 9 for 19; james did just as poorly until he figured out that minnows size was the issue.

he bumped up to 6-8inch suckers and went from 1 for 6 (i think) to 100% hook-ups. i was stuck with a small minnow

would recommend to bring your large minnows next time you go.

    Josh,

put in right on the side of the road just north of Garrision Sports and just south of Garrison Marina/condos. nice area.

but, as alot of people are saying, im not sure what it looks like there anymore, but if i had to guess, i would think the “break” from out in front of McDonnys and northward might still be accessible.

bring some big minnows. tipups ruled! 7-22FOW. fish roamed through every 45-60 minutes and bamm bamm bamm then done for 45-60 minutes.

good luck! let me know if you go and how you did please.

sorry, missed this…as i mentioned, they went every 45-60 minutes, but that 430-700PM timeframe seemed to pick up a bit. i bet the early early morning would be good too.

i’ll be on the lake by 7 am tommorrow. Just got word from the group i’m meeting up there that the bite out from liberty was junk. sounds like i’ll be fishinbg isle bay tommorrow. i’m guessing it’ll be more a perch bite than anything, but that can be fun too. i’ll let you know tommorrow night how we did

Crossing Eyes and I got in on the action Sat morning. 5 slots with no keeps. 2 jigging and 3 on tip ups. Lost about 3 or 4 on tip ups as well. Would like to get back and find some keepers.

Isle bay yesterday was slow. Tiny perch and only two small eyes. Moved a couple of times, and the same outcome. Lots of tiny perch all day long.

Garrison area. Right on break 12-15 foot was good for us. People were fishing the break all over up and down the hwy the whole west side of lake. Bite window was only till about 10am for us. One rod fish came on large Moxie minnow in perch. The other on a med fire tiger buckshot rattling spoon.

i went out this morning planning on fishing by 7am. turned out to be a terrible morning, everything that could go wrong did, and i didn’t get a line wet till 915. i wanted to head out to garrison but was talked into a “hot bite” in isle bay. turned out to be just awful, tons of small perch with just a few over 10 mixed in, no walleye. next weekend i’m going northwest

one positive i can share about my weekend andentures is how well the new salmo zipper worked for me. I bought one friday, a 3/8 oz in a shad color. it worked well saturday on the st. croix for white bass and crappies and was the only thing that turned the heads of the bigger perch i got into today.

sorry to hear about Isle…same theme with Mojo-man it seems.

till next weekend…take care! thanks for the report!
