Early Ice Mille Lacs Report

    First it was Granrud’s ice fishing pics from LOW. Then on Wednesday the text pics started showing up from my friends back home on Mille Lacs. FINALLY Friday rolled around and it was my turn to hit the ice!

    I started off focusing on some shallow rocks that had really been producing for us this Fall… Unfortunately all I got on Friday were a few great pics of the sun setting and the moon rising I did have two really nice picture fish on, but even with brand new hooks on my spoons they never saw the top of the ice

    Saturday after talking too a few friends, fellow IDOer Washburn, my dad, and I hit the ice again with a new gameplan… Stay deeper with the thin clear ice and only put tip-ups on the tops of the rock piles. This time we were able to get to the lake early enough to get holes drilled by 2 PM and let everything settle down before primetime.. and shortly there after it was game-on Nothing crazy but we ended the night with 10 fish total including 4 for the frying pan and this gorgeous 26.5 in tank for my dad

    Sunday morning we started to get them dialed in even more and I picked up a nice limit of keepers and another healthy 25″ beauty

    All in all a very successful first time on the ice

    Sounds good. I’ll be up Wednesday-Saturday morning… hopefully we’ll have the big house out to sleep in by then.

    Thanks G… BTW your friends George and Scotty at Hunters hooked me up with some equipment I was looking for last weekend.

    Next time you see them tell them a huge thanks from Will – They really do have the biggest and baddest ice fishing operation on the lake

    Thanks J! Best part of your LOW report was catching buddy’s lure. Well we had a little bit of a crazy story ourselves… Somehow an entire bucket of minnows got tipped over in the bottom of my sled and as my dad jumped up to try and grab it before they all spilled, down the hole went my favorite Thorne Bros perch sweetheart Since we were just walking out and no one had a camera all I could do was throw on a heavy jigging rap, but after 5 minutes of bouncing along the bottom I managed to snag my rod which then proceeded to be the rod that caught every big fish all weekend
