Decided to make a quick one day trip up to Mille Lacs with my friend Steve on Saturday. Got up there about 5:30pm.
The winds were very strong, but felt with the direction that was forecast, we could fish st albans bay with some success. We made one pass shallow 5-7′ and Steve got one eater of 16 inches.
We headed out to some weed tops in 10-11 feet of water and started getting a few nicer bites. We ended up with 6 fish, with those being the 16, then 24, 25, 25, 25, and 27 1/2 inches. Very solid Walleyes, not skinny at all.
We had a few fish that came unbuttoned after a solid strike, but that’s fishing. I had one that overran the bait and had very huge head shakes, but I could not keep it connected, might not have been a Walleye, sure would have loved to see what it was.
Our best lures were #12 HJ’s in Firetiger, Clown, and an X-Rap.
Water temp was I believe 46.
A friend Jeff was out there also at the same time, hope he will post his fish on here also.
Only one other boat was in the bay for a short while,
be were basically by ourselves, felt a little wierd, so few boats.
Lots of good fishing left this month, get on out there.
