Did a last minute run to the pond last night. Hit the north end just after 9. Worked the shoreline weeds and rocks with hardly anything going for the first couple of hours. I was starting to think this trip was a bad idea. Anyways, decided to move out to some of the reefs around 11, and then we started to find fish. Coincidentally, that was about the time the moon rose last night also. From then on the bite was fairly steady. The fish seemed to be moving on and off the reefs all night. When the moon would appear, they would be right up on top in 6′-8′. When the clouds would thicken, we would move to the edges and just off in that 10′-12′ range. The wind made it tricky to stay on the edge and really made it hard to maintain speed. When it was dark, shad style baits at 1.3-1.5mph worked best. When the moon poked through, 1.8-2.0mph with stick baits caught our fish. Ended the night with 19 or 20 fish and 3 bass, with 6 boxers and the rest being overs. 27″ was the big fish of the night, with most at 20″-22″. Pictured are the 3 biggest(24″,25.5″,27″).
