I launched about 8 and was out fishing with one other truck there. It was a tan chev colorado. I saw them load up. Later trolling the shoreline I saw tailights so I went in to check it out and sure enough another police report made

I was at wealthwood.I drove around looking for who could have done it until 3:00 am.
October 1, 2011 at 5:03 pm #998447The thieves live their, so they are always out.
Pay $10 to launch at a resort. Each time, every time.
Took me two times to learn my lesson, $10 is cheaper than replacing truck windows.
deertrackerPosts: 9249October 1, 2011 at 9:25 pm #977611I launched there last fall and you could see piles of glass in each parking space. I agree, Pay a resort.
DTOctober 1, 2011 at 10:56 pm #998461Makes a guy wanna put a bait car/truck out there and sit and wait like deer hunting in the weeds. Chances are they will return. Sorry to hear. Hope they get caught.
hawkeye27Posts: 324October 2, 2011 at 11:35 am #998488How about just park there and sit in the truck until you get some action!!! Then you know who did and what they are driving. Definitely have some pepper spray or something with you! I wouldn’t recommend a pistol knowing something could happen accidentally!!!
October 3, 2011 at 6:04 pm #998760Take a look at the ramp you are leaving your truck at. Not much else around that area. Im sure the only police patrol would be from the Aitkin county sheriff and I bet there are not by there to often. If you where a thief this ramp is a prime target for you.
There are other good ramps in that area. Myr Mar, Red door, Barnevalds to name a few. These are all much better ramps than wealthwood to. All have protected harbors and some better level of protection for your truck.
Sorry to hear about your truck.

…and deeper water most of the time!!! Sorry to hear Jason.

October 3, 2011 at 7:02 pm #998780Look at that girl over there! She’s wearing a short skirt, low cut shirt, high heels, and is drinking!! That means she wants to be raped right? That is what you just wrote just about a differet subject. So thats why those gals that are raped don’t ever say anything. Well I’M not to proud and will and hope enough word is out there they will be caught. This time they get about $2000 worth of stuff and the last time $3000. They stole my cloths both time. Last time it was old cloths, this time it was all replacement cloths.

No. This just means she good at making poor decisions. Now being in this kinda condition in a dark un patrolled bad part of town that has lots of rapes going on would be even a worse decision. She could cry until she is blue in the face that she didnt want to be raped. Might just have been better off not putting herself in that position.
It sucks that stuff gets stolen but I dont think there will be a end to it any time soon. I was just trying to offer you a few suggestions on where to launch from to help keep it from happening again.
October 3, 2011 at 9:02 pm #998814Really? $5k in clothes? That’s more than my whole wardrobe plus my wheeler!
What are you wearing out on the lake? Or better yet, what kind of clothes are you keeping in your car? Your insurance should cover it, right?October 3, 2011 at 9:02 pm #998815Sorry to hear about the theft… Unfortunatly there are/will always be a few worthless losers out there who are too lazy to work and earn their own property. These are the same type of people who were looting liqour stores after the tornado over the summer.
I always launch out of Barnavelds… It’s just down the road from the Wealthwood access, parking is within just a few yards from the ramp and it’s rarely as busy as many of the larger resorts. It only costs something like a $100 for a season pass which is worth it just for the peace of mind
October 3, 2011 at 11:52 pm #998860thanks for the heads up, good thing Barnavelds doesn’t have good fishing close by oh and Doc’s Harbor is really nice also.
October 4, 2011 at 9:28 pm #999085We all agree thieves are lazy & worthless. That said they are smart enough to keep going back to the same haunts that have worked in the past.
You have a very interesting way of updating your wardrobe. I suggest maybe a change of launch sites. $5,000 worth of losses would be the equivalent of 50 years of season launch passes ($100 each)
BTW, don’t show your significant other your rape analogy. That won’t fly to well I’m guessing
October 5, 2011 at 1:54 am #999127I believe Jason is talking about the stolen rods/tackle that cost $5000…
hansonPosts: 728October 5, 2011 at 4:00 am #999149I tell you what… the rape or slutwalk analogy is a good one in this case.
In my 33 years of walking this earth, my truck has been broken into ONCE and it was in my own driveway. I guess I shouldn’t have parked there, eh? I was asking for it parking in my own driveway.
I use public accesses all over the state. Should I stop using them because thieves target a few around Lake Mille Lacs?
You take a chance anytime you park your vehicle anywhere, just don’t leave anything of value inside of it.
October 5, 2011 at 6:49 am #999074Hmmm…I see what Chris H and Jason are saying…but…
There’s a public access to some back waters that I fish. No lights secluded. I’ve “heard” about 6 tires being slashed on vehicles parked there.
Since it is out in the middle of no where and it’s going to be annoying to call someone at 2 am, I’m thinking I’ll take the better odds of parking at a resort.
In a perfect world, it shouldn’t matter where your stuff is right?

Not a whole lot of options for parking at ones own house. If you are lucky enough to have a garage to park in its a good option. Now if you left a bunch of valuables out in plain sight in your vehicle in the drive way you may have been asking for it.
There are some public landings I would not use around the state for concerns of getting my vehicle broken into. Wealthwood is now on that list. Thank for the heads up Jason. West side of Rush lake is another one I would like to go night fishing at but will not use. Guess you should most likely take a look at the landing and then decide what you need to do to protect your vehicle there.
Your last statement is very true. Doesnt follow the slut walk analogy or beliefs at all. If you wanted to follow that line of thinking you should be able to leave the entire bank roll in your vehicle out in plain sight and it will be just fine. Please do not do this.

I just did some quick math…and the numbers still don’t add up. Especially if you lose $2k one week, and $3k the next week at the same place. Regardless the $$ amount, don’t give these clowns the advantage and the motivation by leaving this stuff in your truck! Analogies aside, these idiots will keep on stealing if they keep on finding things of value within easy reach. I do hope that karma catches up with them.

Crankbaits add up FAST. So do rods, reels, and other stuff… I’ve got well over a grand in cranks in my B&B.

I don’t think anybody questions the value of fishing gear. Some of us question the wisdom of leaving valuables in a areas you have been robbed before.
It has little to do with public accesses, downtown Mpls., downtown Duluth or even Hollywood California. Bad people populate the whole earth.
October 6, 2011 at 3:03 pm #999558I leave nothing in my cab for anyone to even have a reason to break in. Now the 12-pack of bud I accidently left in the bed, well I deserved that one. Wealthwood and the casino landings are pretty bad, each public landing has been hit with a series of break-ins, even some private landing have had some clowns come right on the docks and help themselves to a boat load of tackle/rods/reels/electronics. Best thing is to learn from your mistakes, and try not to repeat.
