Well after exchanging PM’s with Malmo Mafioso and Brad Juaire, FISH509 and I got a free pass from the better halves and it was decided that we were going to the pond to try this lead core stuff.

Neither FISH509 or I had done this before. So it was off to a few different places to find some Salmo Hornets and at our last stop we ran into Cal who just smilled when he seen the Salmo’s.

After all the tips from everyone on this site and some insider intell from Malmo it was decided that we would start in the north east part of the lake. After a quick stop at Mealans for more hornets because $150 worth of them was not enough we were off to Fishers to put in. When we got by Hunters the rain started to fall and o by the way there was a 20 plus mile wind out of the NW. I looked over at Fish509 and said thanks for making me use a chip with the wife. He commented that we could turn around and be home before the kids woke up but we both had the rain gear and it was off we go.

After a short time on the water we looked around and did not see another boat on the water. It was pretty ruff and its a good thing that the Dramine works.

Well needless to say we ended up getting a pattern that was working and starting catching fish. I have never caught some many walleyes in the 8-12″ range. It seemed like the key was to switch plugs back and forth. For a while perch was the color then blue/silver/the new holographic perch worked well also. It seemed like we would catch four or five on one color and then it would switch to another color. We did this back and forth all day.

We found that 27′ was the magic number for us and seemed that was where the bait fish was. After reading several of Brads post we just stayed with the bait and kept changing lures.

We ended the day catching close to 50 walleyes. We had four fish break our line one was a nice pike that I had up to the boat and when it seen the net it decided it wanted no part and snapped it off. We kept our 8 box fish and 9 bonus jumbos between 9-10.5″. We only threw back a handfull of overs with the biggest being 25″. There were two or three doubles.

All in all it was a great day on the water for two rookies to the lead core fishing. I cant thank Brad and Will and others on this site enough. I think that we are hooked!!

Wish I could make it back up but wont be until the Oct full moon.

Nice work fellas….Monday produced similar results, except we found more jumbo perch, which are very tasty.

Geez, he didn’t even slam me for running out of oil in the big motor which in turn caused me to run the T8 in to shore for more oil. With the wind I then hit the rocks with the kicker, merely a flesh wound to the prop.

With an outing like that the ‘rookie’ title isn’t valid any more Nice job and now you have another weapon to use on the walleyes!

Nice work! Those jumbo perch are really a nice bonus. We have been getting a ton of small walleyes too, so the future looks good.

Congratulations on a successful first time out with the lead

After catching 50 fish on your first try with a new technique maybe I’m the one who should be asking you for tips

Ya right. Thanks again for the info. Made the learning curve easier. We never made it out to the deep areas because of boat issues . Thanks again Will
