How big is this smallmouth?

Up trolling on Tuesday prior to getting pushed off the lake by weather… (bummer!) My father reeled in this smallmouth that was between 21.25 and 21.5″, we snapped a quick image and then released it. Didn’t take a weight as my scale needed batteries and was concerned about getting the fish back in the water. I have caught several 20-21″ smallies from ML and the Mississippi but none have had the girth and thickness as this one. It was like a platter with a mouth and tail .

Educated estimates on how big? Largest smallie I have ever had my hands on and Dad has ever reeled in.

    Thanks!

A couple weeks ago my son and I both caught smallies that were 22 1/4″ Mine was 6.75 and his was just over 7 lbs. Usually 22″ smallies do not weigh as much as Largemouth of the same length but there are a few lakes this is the exception to that rule.

My guess is it would be near the 6 1/2 Lb. range give or take a Few OZ. Regardless it was one nice smallie – need to get me one of the those.

Thanks Guys – sounds like a safe bet is 6+ pounds. First trip for dad out walleye fishing w/ me since June of 2009 due to Mom’s condition so we had a great day even if it was shortened.

You guys are nuts. 4.5 to 5 lbs max. Methinks you all need new scales. Here’s a fat 20.75 incher that weighed in at 4 lbs.

The other one is thicker throughout the whole body and is alot longer(me thinks you need a new tape) … + it is a Mille Lacs Fish which automatically makes it bigger and better looking I stand by my guess of close to 6 lbs. I caught a 20 1/2″ that weighed 5 lbs. 6 oz. on 2 different scales

If we’re comparing photos we picked up a 22.25″ pre-spawn this spring pulling raps over shallow rocks that was shaped like a football that we estimated at 6.5-7#… comparing the two photos I’d guess that fish is pushing 6# if not over
