Wonder if they eat spiny water fleas? Sounds like they are booming up there.

They are all over the native mussels and our dock on the north end. Ive cut my foot a few times swimmin with the kid, they’re sharp as a razor blade. Hopefully we can keep other invasive species out.

I’m not trying to lessen the importance of our responsibilities to check our boats, trailers,… But I do wonder how much of these invasive species are transported by ducks/waterfowl. I really noticed a change in a couple lakes in NE Wisconsin this summer with invasive species of weeds. It impacted the early summer location of walleyes, and just makes me wonder what the future will hold

I look at it this way… man has been trying to control the earth, since we figured out it was round…. this place we call home, is forever changing and to think we can control her is just plain silly. Can we stop spreading 1 mussell, yes, can we stop the spread of all invasive species…no. Look at man, we are the most invasive and we won’t hardly stop ourselves from invading everything and anything… This too will not be the doom and gloom that some like to portray…

I laugh when I see threads like this and look back at the threads that bashed the new law to pull the plug in your boat and the ones about transporting bait water from other lakes..

Regardless of what the chances are of stoping the spread of invasives, we all need to work together and do our part. These were obviously spread from Minnetonka or the St. Croix on a boat.

my thoughts exactly G!! and that is a great point, that man thinking they can control mother nature, is well, downright foolish…

never know, 20 years from now, zebra mussels may end up being a great asset to the waters, you never know. they do clean up the water.

instead of trying to change everything, we just need to learn to adapt, just like every other species on this earth does.

You were supposed to be able to drive across Lake Michigan from Milwaukee to New Haven by now but for some reason you can’t.

    Relax.

Yeah. We should stock some Asian carp too. They look like good fighters.

It’s certainly unfortunate and will change the fishery in some ways… but looking at the glass half full, the great lakes are full of them and last I checked the walleye fishing is pretty good on those bodies of water…
