    Hey guys,

Heading to Mille Lacs for the first time. Week with my wife and kids (12yrs & 8yrs)in a cabin. I am looking for any tips, good food joints, must see, things that are also family friendly. Thank you!

P.S. I am staying in Isle.

Depends on what part of the lake your going to be on. Best way to fish with kids is a slip bobber and a leech on the rocks sunrise and sunset. The northerns are starting to bite if you are near the south end. Drag spoons along the weedlines, the kids will have a ball.

Hennipen state park has a great beach also if you are by Isle,MN(south end).

Relax have fun and hope for good weather!!

Here is a hot tip I got fresh today…. on a golf course A guy pounded the eyes on the south end, in 6 feet of water, along some reeds, during the middle of the day He is a reliable source too Have fun !!!

There is a nice sandy beach on the north side a couple miles west of Malmo. Nice place to spend the day with kids. You can wade out 50-75 yards and still be 4-5 feet deep.

Can’t remember the name of the place, but the pizza shop downtown Isle is good!

Not a lot of “tourist attractions” on the lake. There is a scenic overlook a mile or so north of Johnsons Postide. (Tackle/bait/food/gas/beer place) You would need to take a drive over to Brainerd for water parks, go carts arcades stuff.

If you just want to bend a rod, fish the shallow water markers just out of Isle bay for smallies. Or the reed lines with crappie minnows for perch.

    Good Luck.

Plenty of Geo caching in the area to. That beach Jon mentioned on the north end has a number of them as do many places around the lake. The kids always seem to enjoy this.

I just returned from a great trip to Mille Lacs with my family. We stayed at Appledorns. Without a doubt a great family resort. The beach and amenities will make the kids extremely happy. THe grounds are manicured. Inflatable water toys for the whole family. In case you dont notice I was really impressed. It is a family resort but they take care of fishermen well. While they do not have a landing they do a great job getting boats in and out of the water with their tractors. I highly recommend the resort.
Oh fishing was fantastic too, limit for 4 on Friday night corking. 2 trophy smallmouth with plenty more for fun.

Appeldorns X2! We have a spot at their seasonal park and we absolutly love it! Paul does a great job and runs a top notch resort. Putting our trailer there is one of the best decisions our family has made in a long time!
