Spent several days last week fishing Mille Lacs. First trip of the year to the pond. Spent day time hours prying the deep gravel boating fish in 28′-30′ on lindy rigs and leeches. #6 colored hook (orange or pink) and 6 foot snell worked for the most part. Saturday rigged the north end sand flats in 21′ boating several eyes on the same set up. Lots of fish graphed, but not nearly as many biters as marks on the HDS 7’s. Evening bite was spent corkin on shallow rocks adjacent to deeper water. With lots of boats out, the key was to find spots away from the crowd, even if on the same piece of strucure. 1/16 and 1/32 jigs tipped with leeches under the corks out produced plain hooks. Boated approximately 45 fish in the 3 days, approximately half were over the slot. Water was mid 50’s at the start of the trip with 60’s by Sat afternoon. Lots of bugs out Friday evening… Good luck to all venturing out. Did not fish the mud, but would think this bite would be picking up, if it has not all ready.
