Thanks to Garret, Josh, Rick, Johnny Bigs, Christine, and of course my dad 2011 might have been the most fun I can remember having in a boat. Perfect weather, great friends, and AWESOME fishing… It doesn’t get much better than that for me!

Not only did we pile up the numbers, but two nights in a row I had a close friend catch their personal best walleye!! There was even one pass where all 4 of us were fighting fish at the same while I was simultaniously trying to weave through the maze of boats and lighted bobbers… What an absolute blast!!!!

Since we had such a good time I thought I would share the some of the pics with you… Hopefully some of you can reply and share yours as well

Here are a few from Sunday Night…

Sounds like a great opening weekend. I have never trolled cranks in the spring on Mille lacs. Looks like a good presentation. Getting family and friends on good fish is even better.

Here are some more from Saturday… The first pic is Josh Clark and his personal best 27″ eye. The floor pick is our quadruple with all the fish coming at once.

One trick that I forgot to mention earlier is my boat’s use of the good luck mustache for fishing opener weekend… Never underestimate the power of a sweet stache

Call it coincidence if you want but this year’s award for best stache goes to the Big Red Machine Johnny Bigs and he also went home with the prize for 1st and biggest fish!!

Can you fish at night this coming weekend on Mille lacs? Think this might be the year I need to stray away from pool 2.

Night Closure: No one may fish for any species or possess fishing gear on the lake from 10 p.m. through 6 a.m. starting at 10 p.m. on May 16, 2011, and ending at 12:01 a.m. on June 13, 2011.
    Sorry Mike.

Nice report Malmo….I too found myself sleeping durning the day this opening weekend and trolling like it was October full moon. Saturday night was a hoot, first of all about a gazillion boats lined up for corking along the break looked awesome with the red sunset. The fish cooperated very nicely all night into the early morning hours. Lots of fun.

Here’s another that I just figured out how to get off my phone… Will Barnaveld of Barnaveld’s resort with his own personal best 31″ behemoth.

The picture quality isn’t the best as all they had was a cell phone, but even spawned out it was the biggest walleye I’ve personally seen on Mille Lacs. Unfortunatly she didn’t end up in my boat, but was caught fishing right next to us using the exact same pattern!

very nice job, I’ve got a few also which I need to get off the camera. No red eye roughies? We almost went back to Barnaveld’s to launch, but the boats we used were just small enough to go out from Weathwood and not get stuck, that landing is really bad, anything over 16 feet, you may not get out.

Only a couple roughies so far
Seems like they must not come in to spawn on the rocks until the water temps hit the mid 50’s.

The landing in Malmo is usually pretty worthless for anything over 16′ but I was thinking with the water levels higher this year that they might be better.

Ice heave tore one side out completly, the other side is so full of sand, you could tell where somebody got stuck really bad, would not want to be that guy. I usually use Doc’s or Barnaveld’s when I have my boat along, but since we fish right along shore over opener, the small boats work to our advantage sometimes.

If I’m fishing the North side I always hit Barnaveld’s since they’ve got a great harbor and there’s rarely a line to get out even at 10:00 during the night ban.

You going to be up over memorial day? sounds like we fish pretty much the same areas so we should meet up sometime.

not sure yet, depends if mama gives me a pass on all the graduation parties. I might just head over to Lake Francis Case, they are on fire right now. Will give you a heads up when I will be up, our compound is just east and north of Wealthwood.
