I try to read those threads but I get so p!ssed off that I have to close the window before I break something….

How this has gone on for so long, is a complete shame.

I guess in this instance it’s a good thing I can’t post here how I really feel.

i think a lot of ppl think it’s a shame what’s going on…is it going to take normal ppl like us forming a mob 2 stop it or what??

it is ridiculos that it can keep going on with such little enforcement! after last year you would think rules and observing would be monitored more closely but its worse this year. the worst is the camping and blocking off public acesses! we pay for them and we cant stay overnight, have fires, or run commercial ishing operations! but the people we pay can do just about anything they want with no consequences!

most likely it will because the only law enforcement that is involved in it is the tribla co’s!! all incidents can be reported to the dnr but they will tell you to send it to the tribal co’s because they dont want to deal with it!! thats why people are taking different routes and doing it their own ways!

i hear ya. all this is is the whole we stole their land so now they live on reservations and run casinos and net tons of fish. if i’m correct we r the only ppl in the history of the world that felt bad for stealing land….isn’t that what the history of the world is?? lol i think we have paid them back and then some for the land and they should get over it. sorry to say it but without all these free handouts i would hate to see where the indians would b today.

Personally to me the netting is more than upsetting but the actual reality is that this issue is more political than you can imagine. E-mails to the DNR and local sheriff obviously do nothing. This treaty is hundreds of years old and the probability of getting it changed is slim to none. You want something to change take it to congress because ultimately in the end they are the politicians that will and do get laws and bills changed. Take it to a senator, a congress man or woman and a state governor. It’s all politics and bashing a ritual (THAT I AM AGAINST) that’s out lived you, in forums like this will not get anything changed. I personally believe that the more outraged people get over this the more the Natives enjoy savagely raping our resources and they take more and more cause they know it bothers us and in the end we pay for it to be restocked anyway. The more publicity this wasteful netting gets the more fish they take and more of them come and nothing changes because nobody takes it to the ones who can actually get things changed……….the politicians

    Just my .02 cents worth

How many years have we seen these posts but we have not seen anyone take it beyond a worthless e-mail to the DNR ?

I heard that 8 out of the 9 bands that net the lake arent even from Minnesota. Why do we have to pay to manage a lake that Wisconsin chippewa tribes are pillaging. I know walleye are not stocked and dont need to be. If they would not net during the spawn it wouldnt be so harmful but every fish taken accounts for thousands of potential fish to be wasted. MN will never step up to the natives. The only state that doesnt collect any tax from gaming revenue. what a joke.

It’s out of the states hands. It’s in the hands of the Feds in the courts which won’t over turn lower court rulings.

I take these threads with a grain of salt. People get all bent out of shape over netting, but they will be the first ones in the door at the Casinos if a rain cloud is on the horizon.

You can’t cry the resource is being raped and then pour your money into their pockets.

‘if you would read the forums on the other site you would notice multiple people are doing more than sending letters to dnrs! people take the time to gather evidence because the majority of the stuff they do isnt in the treaty therefore making it illegal! thats why people like fellegy and other mille lacs cabinowners/guides are taking a stand on this one because this year has been the worst so far…. blocked off ramps by tribal co’s, fires at public accesses, camping at pas, and just about anything a working person would get a ticket for.

see and not all people are this way. i personaly never go to the casino and i live 30 mins from treasure island and mystic lake but i will not support anything they do or have because it was all handed to them by us! if it wasnt for the sportsman like on the other dite that are at least trying and not complaining about others there would be no fish left in that lake. the fishing keeps going down hill snd will turn into red if nothing is done.

AMEN to that last part, brother!!! With a cabin nearby I’ve witnessed that happen a million times and it always leaves me scratching my head and wondering WHY would so many people who seemingly care about equal rights and conservation of the resource go and shoot themselves in the foot by blowing their money in the casino everytime it starts to rain!?! Stay back and play cribbage, spend some quality time with the kids, have a cocktail, but whatever you do quit funding their cause by spending your money in their casino…and Subway…and gas stations/convenience store…and resort…

I have read the treaties, they are on line for anyone who chooses to do a little research. I have come to the conclusion that the courts will never remove the native americans right to fish/hunt/gather on tribe lands. This is very well spelled out in the treaties.

What I do think needs to happen is the elimination of the $2.7 billion dollars we give to the tribes each year. This authority was not given in the treaties, and is donated to the tribes by your tax dollars every year. I have a suspicion that if elimination of federal and state dollars to these tribes was put on the table, the tribes would be more than happy to give up their netting rights to keep this money

We all also need to realize that in this nanny state of helping the poor people who we have wronged, no politician will touch the true issue. All the bitching and moaning will not help. The entire treaty can be eliminated at any point by the president, but it just won’t happen.

Millelacseye your enthusiasm is duely noted but the reality is this is not going to change. Law enforcement and state officials are helpless and cannot do anything. Look up the defenition sovereign nation.

Jesse and all who think in the terms he converys? With THAT take–you are right–nothing will change.

That said, stay tuned. As I and many others intend to prove you wrong. Come back after ice out next spring and tell me I’m wrong.

And no, I won’t debate it here or anywhere for now–any more than I already have on the internet this spring and in the past. But, be rest assured….I and many others will NOT sit back and watch it and allow it to go on endlessly.

    Like I said….stay tuned.

Sovereignty is the quality of having supreme, independent authority over a geographic area, such as a territory.[1] It can be found in a power to rule and make law that rests on a political fact for which no purely legal explanation can be provided!!!

i know what it means im not a 19 year old idiot! if we cant go on to resevations and do what we want why can they they are coming to our nation once they leave the reservation. make them get a passport to leave it and come to ours. they wanted it the way they have it now and abuse everything they have/get handed to them! so why should people that live off the lakes/and fish in it have to sit back and watch all these illegal activities go on. while they in no way shape or form even need to be netting as we all pay for the food they feed their family. just one more thing to add to things they are taking from us!

steve, some people obviously dont care about the situation and after they go to mille lacs in a couple years and cant catch a fish they will want to hop aboard! its funny how some people work! its a situation they everyone should at least try and have a part of because our dnrs are doing nothing about any of it!

I can see where people like Jesse think the way he thinks and say what they say, people with no skin in the game seldom see the glass half full. Be aware, there are tribes who want to net everything everywhere, so as Custer said “we may as well make our stand here.”
I appreciate all you do Steve, Bobber, and the rest.

Now your going to attack me when I clearly stated how it infuriates me to see what is going on up there ? When your standing on Captiol Hill ready to make a difference let me know I will be there with 100% support for you but for now playing Cowboys and Indians ain’t gonna cut it in this Federal matter.
