Walleye fishing has been pretty good considering the weather and hatch. Have just been to busy to report but have had decent fishing the last week with just one or two “not so good” days. Saturday we started out up by Duck point and could not get a fish. Tried one other spot on Ottertail and no fish. Made the run out to some rocks and it was the right move,(finally) We only kept 4 but caught atleast 20 walleyes. Sunday was the worst day of the week with no wind, high sun and 3 different kinds of bug hatches going on. It was one of those hot days and the bugs were all over the boat and a major pain in the butt. We managed a dozen walleyes with 4 keepers and the rest in the slot for a whole day of fishing.

Monday was a different day. When I got to the landing there was decent east wind and cloud cover. Picked up quests and had high hopes. What a difference a day can make. I headed to some rocks and we jigged up a good 20 walleyes + by noon and dropped them off with there 8 keepers. , Picked up another group at noon. The wind had died and sun came out. Fishing was slower but was still able to get 10 walleyes with 4 keepers. Even with the slower then normal fishing there are big fish caught every day and not just one. Fish that don’t make the box are all over 20 inches with many 24,25 and a couple over 26.

Today (6/22/10) was a big fish day with just a few keepers. Had good wind in the morning and caught 15 or so walleyes. Most were 23 to 25 inches. I know we had 3 that went just over 25. only 5 fish were kept.

I am fishing mostly rocks with jigs and minnows. I am either snapping or ripping the heck out of the jigs and that smack it hard. Most anglers have abandon the jig and I will also when the rocks cool off, but when the wind blows the rocks are hot. The rocks are not a bad option with un favorable conditions either. The mix of size is very good with enough for the livewell and big fish for extra excitement. This bug thing should nearing and end I hope, but fish can still be caught it just takes more time and effort.
