After a 4 day break it was time to get back on the lake. I picked up 3 guests for a 1/2 day and headed to where I left off last Sunday. With high hopes of not having to run around the lake I pulled out to a rock pile. There were no boats, for a Saturday with full boat-landings I was surprised. But I handed all a jigging rod, did a little demo (none of the 3 had caught a walleye before) and we were drifting with a decent east wind.
It took all of 5 minutes to have the first fish in the boat and in 3 hours we had got there 12 nice keepers along with numerous fish over 20. The largest being just 25 but 2 of them and several that were just under 25. I know we caught more over 20 inches then keepers. It is a very good rock bite right now and the jig is hot. The novice anglers I had today mastered the “snap” and had a blast hooking walleyes. The numbers had to be high but I wasn’t keeping count after about 15. There were very few small fish caught but plenty for the box and you just cant ask for better fishing and a better size mix. The lake is just amazing this year.
Tomorrow I am staying to the west side and may fish walker bay a bit. I have already tied some lindy rigs up as I expect to be fishing leeches and crawlers in sand and weeds. We will have one jig rod going but I expect the rig to be more productive.
