The last 4 days have been very good walleye fishing. All on the west side but in a couple different locations. Friday we had a decent wind and were able to get a 3 person limit in just a 1/2 day. Saturday was the slowest of the last four days but still caught over 20 walleyes with most being over 20 inches and in 6 hours of fishing. Sunday was great fishing, had wind and clouds with a sprinkle of rain. We fished 6 hours and caught 30 eyes, with 5 keepers and the rest over 20 inches. This spot was loaded with 20 to 23 inch fish that were feeding heavily on craw fish and made a mess out of my boat. Today I had 3 guys and headed to the same spot as Sunday with high hopes of lots of big fish. Well as it often happens on leech the fish had moved or were just plain full of craw fish. I wasted a couple hours trying to find them and ended up having to move a mile. The move also included a change in presentation (first time this year) as I just couldn’t get fish to hit a jig today. I tied up one lindy rig with a leech and caught an eye almost instantly. I had 3 guys in the boat and with almost 1/2 pound of leeches eaten by walleyes we had our limit plus 2 just above the 26 inch mark. (neither were kept) Today’s limits were the nicest I have seen all season with several fish over 17 and most over 16. These size fish have eluded me up until now along with the over 26 fish.
Up until today I have been jigging shiners with good results and fully intend to do more jigging but the lindy rig was hot today and will have atleast one rig with a leech or crawler in the water at all times. We have been fishing all sand flats, mostly off shore sand. Have had luck with or with out wind and even had a slow morning with a good chop. All spots have been less then 9ft.
I have been bad about taking pics this year and really don’t take them unless they are around 26. I should have taken a stringer photo today as they were very nice fish but I didn’t.
