Morning vs. Evening Bite

Has anyone had any significant success fishing in the morning on Leech this year? I went out on Saturday morning after reading all of the success people are having, and we only got 1 walleye. The perch bite was pretty good, but I didn’t see anyone else catching walleyes either. We were up on Big hardwood – The Meadows – Little Hardwood – Star Point area. Later I talked to a guy who told me that the only time worth while is to fish in the evening on Leech. We went out Sunday night and slammed ’em in the exact same spots fishing with the same setup (1/4 Standup green fireball tipped with a shiner).

I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for morning fishing, if you need to approach the same spots differently up there, or if I’m just bad at fishing! I’ve read a few people using rainbows and leeches, are they the ticket this time of year?
