With the warmer weather the last few days Leech is starting to heat up. The fish are still scattered but seem to be schooling up more and more. The much anticipated shallow bite will be starting any day as the fish are getting more and more active.
Much of Portage Bay, many of the reefs off the south shore, Goose Island area, and Stony Point area are starting to produce many nice fish. With the lack of wind we have had this week the key is to work slow. My best results have been coming on a 1/8 oz. Oddball jig tipped with either a shiner or a small rainbow. The standard leech lake green w/chartreuse has been the best producer. Many of the fish are still holding off the edges of the points and structure. When the wind picks up we should be in for a great bite as the fish are just waiting to move up and chow!!!
The crappie bite on many of the smaller lakes in the area is in full swing. Great reports have been coming in from many of the lakes in the area. Look for the crappie in the shallow bays as they are moving in and putting on the feed bags. During the off times of the day, work the first big break to deep water connected to that bay.
