Great ice reports from throughout the Leech Lake Area. The smaller area lakes have ice from 3-8” with super panfish reports. Crappie and Bluegill action has been great.
Leech Lake has ice over most of the lake. As of today 12/2/02 Walker Bay is still open.
Ice on Leech varies from 6-8” in Steamboat Bay, Pine Point and Traders Bay. Ice Fisherman are catching Perch and Walleyes in these area traveling by foot and ATV. Some 22-25” walleyes reported caught off Pine Point using Northland Buck-Shot Spoons and minnow heads in 8’ water. 6-9’ depths are the target areas for the Perch fishing. The perch are not super aggressive so smaller presentations under floats working well. Wax worms out fishing minnows or minnow heads lately. Guides are using Chartreuse Forage Minnows with two wax worms.
It is still early in the season so proceed with caution on the ice. Don’t travel alone, wear a life jacket and carry Life Spikes! The Leech Lake Guides want you to have a Merry Christmas.
