Warm weather and lots of forage have kept fish in check this last week on Leech Lake. Anglers are working for their results. Walleyes appear to have reached their favorite fall locations as anglers are seeing plenty of fish and bait fish on their locators, however getting them to bite during the day has been difficult. Best walleye fishing now has been in the evening hours trolling Shad Raps and/or pulling live bait rigs tipped with crawlers. Areas to fish include Sand Point of Walker Bay, Steamboat bay and Five Mile Point in Portage Bay.
Muskie Fishing as well seems to peak during the twilight hours with very few fish following. If there is a hungry fish there, they are willing to eat a bait during low light. Daytime action has been slower. Best options for catching a fish now include West Bar & Pelican Reef as well as the Grand Vu weed bed.
Currently the main lake water temperature is in the mid to upper 60’s. As water temperatures fall watch for the results of the anglers to get better and better. Every cool night helps.
