Muskies are providing anglers with the hottest action in the summer heat on Leech Lake this week. Cabbage Weed Beds are holding most of the active fish with good reports coming from Portage Bay and Walker Bay. Bionic Bucktail’s and TopRaiders are the two hottest baits this past week including some upper 40″ fish released.
Walleyes remain scattered across the lake. Very few schools of fish being found, especially during the daytime hours. Trolling Berkley Frenzy and Shad Raps across weed flats in the 9-11′ range producing. Other anglers are keying in on weed edges, especially on the south end where spinners with crawlers are producing results. Bottom line is that if you want to catch walleyes right now, you will have to cover a lot of water. The bright spot for walleyes has been the twilight hours. A good bite on Huddles Reef and Rogers Point are giving up some fish on Live bait rigs in 8-15′ of water.
Bass fishing has been getting better and better with Boy and Headquarters bay the place to be. JawBreaker Spoons cast and retrieved through emergent vegetation catching very nice fish.
Don’t forget the sunscreen!!!
