Live Bait Rigs is producing the majority of the walleyes on Leech Lake right now. A rig with a 48″-60″ snell tipped with a Leech or Crawler is attracting eyes. The one key according to the guides has been the Super Glo Hook on the snell. Northland Tackle’s new :”Super Glow” hook is out producing a standard hook. These rigs trolled or drifted slowly on flats in the 8-14′ range is working. Areas such as the Meadows and West Goose Island flats and also in Portage Bay near Five Mile Point is holding fish. Some eyes have also been caught near the base of rock piles on the main lake. 20-28′ of water. Some live bait rigging yet also some going on Rock Runner Bottom Bouncers and a spinner tipped with crawler, leech or minnow. Keep covering water until you locate some biting fish.
Muskies are starting to show their faces and hopefully the bite will explode with the 4th of July Fireworks. Walker Bay and Kabekona Bay weedbeds have been active with fish. Small bucktails and topwater baits best.
Largemouth Bass fishing has been very good on the small lakes and Leech has produced some great size fish lately. Jawbreaker spoons and Texas rigged blue 8″ Berkley Power worms catching fish.
Have a very Happy Fourth of July, God Bless America!
