Ice conditions remain excellent throughout the Leech Lake Area. Most lakes have 22-28″ of good ice. Very little snow on the ground or ice making travel easy.
Jumbo perch action has really heated up this past few days with the shallow water bite being most productive. Depths of 4-8’ of water fishing areas with either sand grass or cabbage weeds holding the 10 inch + jumbo perch. Few anglers finding jumbos in large numbers through any one hole. Moving from hole to hole in an area providing best results. Try Leech Lake in areas such as Sand Point, Steamboat Bay, Walker Narrows and again on the north end of Sucker Bay.
Jigging spoons and swimming baits worked aggressively are the key. Northland Forage Minnow Spoons tipped with minnow head attracting the big perch. Swimming baits such as a jigging rapala working as well.
For anglers who want to catch some BIG fish. Eel pout action has become excellent. Fish moving up onto the bars and humps of walker bay. Evenings have proved to be most productive time period with many fish around 10 lbs. being caught. Don’t worry, no one will tell your friends that you were pout fishing. In fact, it is socially acceptable to brag about it while your here in Walker, MN. Large glowing spoons tipped with minnows will catch your next trophy pout.
Great ice and good fishing await, call the Leech Lake Guide Coalition 218-547-3212.
