Excellent ice conditions throughout the Leech Lake Area, and the fishing is pretty good too!
Walleye action in Walker Bay of Leech Lake has been pretty good during the twilight hours of dawn and dusk. Anglers fishing the humps that top out between 20-30 ft. are finding active walleyes in the 16″-22″ range consistently when fishing during twilight. Presentations most productive these days is a chartreuse/glow Northland Buck-Shot rattle spoon tipped with a minnow head. The key is to keep the spoon active. Very aggressive jigging techniques are catching fish this week. Other anglers have had some luck with a Northland Ghost Grub under a float and a whole shiner minnow, however the majority of the fish have come from active jigging.
A daytime walleye bite in 13’ of water off Sand Point has been reported as well. Again active jigging techniques producing fish. The bonus here is that when your not catching the walleyes jumbo perch have been active.
As for the perch fishing, anglers are finding that moving often across the flats in the Pine Point area is catching fish. Smaller baits/presentations responsible for many of the fish caught. A Northland Micro Minnow tipped with Wax worms working well. The real key to catching numbers of perch right now is KEEP MOVING. Apparently the schools of perch are roaming so you best keep up if you want to keep catching!!!
HAVE A GREAT DAY ON THE ICE.
