ICE ANGLERS REJOICE !!!!!!!
Ice fisherman in Minnesota were beginning to believe that Santa had left them lumps of coal in their stocking. Yet it turns out most of these anglers were better boys and girls then they thought. Ice is covering all of the state now and fishing has been very, very good.
Finally.
In the Leech Lake Area anglers are having great success for perch and walleyes in the typical hot spots for this time of year. Sand Point, Pine Point and the north end of sucker bay are all putting out good fish. The really good news is that the humps in Walker Bay are now accessible and the walleyes are there. Humps in the 20-30’ range have been really good for anglers playing the game. The fish are not overly aggressive for most anglers therefore using a whole shiner minnow on a NorthLand Ghost Grub under a float, over these humps has proven deadly. Some angers rigging one rod with the float/jig combo and using the other to jig a spoon having good luck on the spoon as well.
Perch fishing on pine point has been good with many, many perch in the 8-11″ range reported. Most anglers finding best success moving quite a bit following the schools while jigging a Northland Buck-Shot Rattle Spoon tipped with a minnow head. Here they are catching the perch and a occasional walleye. Concentrate your efforts in 9-11 ft here and again on the north end of sucker bay. Sand point has done well off the break in 13’ of water with a great mix of walleyes and perch. Again, Northland spoons producing well, especially in the perch pattern.
Happy New Year!!!! From the Leech Lake Guide Coalition!
