It has been a interesting fall fishing here on Leech Lake with the slow “cool down” of the lake fish are slowly showing up in their fall hotspots. The hot news is fishing has been good overall. As water temps hold near 59 degrees walleyes are showing up on shallow harder bottom areas around Stoney Point, Pine Point, Goose Island, West Bar. Depths of 7-11 ft has been most common really depending on wind. When the wind blows the fish are moving shallower with no wind fish have been scattered and deeper. As for the last couple weeks either a Fire-Ball jig and a Minnow or a Roach Rig tipped with a crawler or Minnow working. Interesting that slow, dragged jigs are out producing snap jigging lately. Perch fishing is again strong however it seems Jumbos are a bit tuff to find. Anglers catching many perch near Walker Narrows and in Portage Bay on the north end in 7-12’ using small jigs tipped with a piece of crawler or small fathead minnow. Plan on catching many fish and be prepared to go through lots of Bait sorting out the Jumbos. Muskie Fishing has been awesome around Pelican Reef for anglers throwing topwater baits and Bionic Bucktails.
Fall is short take advantage of the best fishing of the Year!!
