The water temperatures are holding around 58-60 degrees which has kept most of the walleye action on off shore structure. Edges of flats such as the Goose Island flats, and the Sugar Point Sand Bar in depths of 9-11 ft are holding aggressive eyes. Most anglers using jig and minnow combinations such as the Northland Stand-up Fire-Ball and minnow however on days without much wind it may be wise to try a Live Bait Rig tipped with a crawler in these same areas. The fish are scattered along these edges so anglers must cover some water. Some fish are also showing up on the harder bottom areas such as Pine Point Hardwoods and Stony Point. As water temps drop look for the walleyes to show up more prevalent on these points.
Muskie action holds strong on the rocks near Pelican Island and the shallow water pencil reed bite in Portage Bay. Topwater baits such as the Awaker working well along with the Squirly Burt, yet most anglers choosing traditional baits and catching fish on the Bionic Bucktail and the Lily Tail.
Time is limited on open water now……go fishing!!
