I fished Leech last Thursday and Friday, calm hot days and the fishing reflected that. We caught fish but would have to move to catch more than a couple as one spot would not produce any numbers. On Friday I fished some off shore rocks (for about 10 minutes) and caught a nice slot fish instantly but before I could even bait my hook the fly hatch was unbearable to fish in. You couldn’t breathe without inhaling a bug or two. They were as bad as I have seen and covered everything in the boat,,, what a mess. However I believe fish are setting up in summer haunts and I will be back on those rocks tomorrow with high expectations. . I took the weekend off and looking at the numbers of fish caught over the weekends walleye tourney the fish bit well even with fronts and heavy rains.
Monday (6/2) I opted to fish close to the landing as storms were expected to pass thru. We fished a long break leading up to a sparsely weeded flat. We had decent luck for about 2 hours and then was run off by the rumble of mother nature,, who gave us time to get off the lake before down pouring more rain. Today I fished the same type area and the bite was much better, not great but we had around 15 fish with half being slot fish. 2 of which went 25 inches. A summer pattern seems to be setting up with water temps from 68 to 71 and the presents of some green weeds.
I am still jigging shiners but have what I need to rig leeches and crawlers if needed. I do think either will work right now. 9 to 11ft has been best. We saw water temps raise over 10 degrees last week and now the lakes are rising. I don’t pretend to know what this does to the fish but as they reach their summer locations the fishing will improve as I am seeing it happen. I am on the water the next 6 days and will be fishing numerous areas of the lake so I will hopefully have some better reports. Reports that I have heard are from very good to very slow with mine being average but I hope to change that this week.
