Myself and 3 of my Friends will be making the trip to leech for the first time ever. We are Mille lacs lake boys and have been for years and year. This year we would like to try new water and need some advise to what is the best way to put fish in the boat. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. We all know how it feels to pack up and head somewhere new. Thanks for the help!

Leech is a big lake so you need to give some indication on where you are going to stay and when for some ideas. It could be difference of 10 minutes to 1 hour of running time to get to a spot.
Most all rocky points on the lake are good starting points. I haven’t fished a point up there without success yet.

This is what concerns me. The fiasco that is Mille Lacs will start impacting other lakes.

I would suggest Adventure North Resort or The Shores at Pine Point, both are on Pine Point and this area has excellant fishing and multiple options when/if the wind gets up. Both Resorts are very nice, Advneture North has Pool and Great Harbor- Great Hosts.
April 14, 2014 at 9:03 pm #1404169Sorry for that long delay! We are coming up the week after opener. Staying in Walker. I understand the lake is as big as the big pond of Mille Lac( we are use to Large waves) and we are open to travel as we have a large Ranger with power. Thanks for all the insight and we hope to keep leech as our opener spot. Always fun trying something new! eace

At that time its going to be a shallow shoreline related bite. Jig and minnow will be your best bet (spot tail shiners)but if its tough you could also rig the minnow. Coming from walker you will only have to enter the big lake from the walker narrows and not have to go to far to find fish. The second weekend you will see groups of boats. Joining them is a good starting option but don’t be afraid to find your own spot. Average depths to try will be from 4ft out to 12ft but 7 to 10 will be where I will be looking first. There is a ton of fish holding water on the west side of the big lake. Find one eye and you should find more in the same spot.
