I have a couple trips planned to the Lake and was curious as to when they start reporting when the Ice will be out on the lake? This winter has been extremely cold and I am concerned that there won’t be much fishing done in May. Any help on this topic would be great. Thanks everyone!

Ice out is never reported as it will go out on this date. People that live on the lake and see the changes everyday know when it is close. Affected by temp, rain, wind, etc.

The Minnesota DNR site has an iceout date map that they updated daily for many lakes. We had to fish a new river on opener last year, got out on the lake we were fishing Sunday afternoon. It was pretty cool being on the water watching the ice disappear as the day progressed. Had to keep a close eye on the wind, would have been a problem if it blew into the landing.

No sure fire way to predict ice out.

It’s way too soon to tell. A lot can happen in April, even though last year next to nothing happened in April The ten day forecast looks promising. I think any May fishing is a question mark right now.
