Rain, sleet, wind, 29 degree temp this morning with a drop of sun mixed in and the recipe was complete for a day Fall fishing. Well, it was actually only 4 hours total between yesterday and today. Fast and furious perch slaying with my wife and 2 kids.
Thursday afternoon we had no clue where to go to get out of the wind. I had some spots set up but the wind and rain doused those. The boys at Shrivers bait were helpful and pointed us to northwest corner of Walker Bay. We fished near Sand Point out of the wind in 6 to 8 fow with success! We kept 12 perch over 10 inches and tossed back 60 or more small ones.
They were tight to the bottom and barfed up small crayfish–bright orange–in the livewell. Aha! My hand tied orange hair jigs came out and it was game on.
This morning we moved to the next point south and got into a herd of 12 to 13 inchers. Little wind and no rain helped a lot. Again, full of crayfish.
Dragging right on the bottom was key. We had huge flatheads so we just pinched off the head. A little meat, orange jighead and hair, and BANG!
Everyone was HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY.
