My first trip out to Leech today (5/18). We didn’t get to the water till just before noon. Greeted by heavy fog that did not lift all day. Really didn’t want to go to far so I fished a couple spots that were good last year at this time and only managed 1 keeper and a few nice perch. Wasted over two hours before heading further out. It was the fourth spot and we didn’t have look for another. It wasn’t a real hot spot but we did catch 18 walleyes in 2 ½ hours with most being keeper fish. We only had a few over the slot and just a couple too small. We kept a nice two man limit.

These fish were from 9 to 15ft and jigs and shiners worked well. We had a slow drift but it was too slow and we had troll and work the jigs. We had the spot all to ourselves most the time but its leech lake on Saturday. We never made it to big lake. I had been out on a different lake earlier in the week and managed a nice walleye that came in at 29 ½. This fish was spawned out but was a beast of a fish from snoot to tail.

I use that access at erickson most the time. You may want to fish the west side of the big lake, Little hardwood, Meadows or around goose Island. walker bay may have some spots but normaly the big lake is better this time of year. You can also find fish in steamboat bay this time of year.
