I managed to get out on a little lake close to my house the past 2 nights. The results weren’t great, but I was fishing! ;-) I walked out with a spud the 1st night. I found 7-1/2″ of ice close to shore and 6″ in the main lake.

The 1st night I got maybe 6-7 smaller blue gills and 1 crappie that went around 12″ and lost another at the hole, and a small northern.

Tonight I took my almost 7 year old daughter with in the wet heavy snow. I was unaware that she could talk and hum that much! haha The fish bit a little better tonight. We ended up with maybe a dozen small gills and 3 crappies and a northern. Of course I only reeled in about 3 fish. Minnows caught a few and waxies got most all of the gills.

Around here we got 4-5″ of very wet, heavy snow. Inside the Otter tonight there was probably a inch of water on the ice. There were wet spots on the lake that weren’t there yesterday. Hopefully we get a little colder weather pretty soon with not much for snow. I will add a couple pics of my daughter. As you can tell she doesn’t like holding northerns, but she looked cute doing it! The crappie pic was ” Hurry up dad this is heavy” haha We had a good time!

Great stuff Adam!. Love the strained look on her face from holding up that crappie!

Today I went and checked the ice before I headed out. I took the wheeler where I had wanted to go the past 2 days, but didn’t know if it was ok. The lake had totally changed. There was slush and standing water in spots around a crack I had seen before the snow. There were spots where you could see water coming up. What did I do? I went fishing anyway!

It was worth it though. As soon as I got set up the gills were biting. Nothing huge, but fun. There were a few small crappies mixed in. As it got closer to dark the crappies replaced the gills. I ended up keeping 5 for a meal and let everything else go. It was a lot of fun, with steady action most of the night. Now to thaw out my gear properly! lol

Do I spy a Ratso? I found this past weekend it was really hard to beat for the panfish. Looks like you had a nice evening. Get that gear dry now

Actually I was using a fat boy with 2-3 waxies on it! All but 2 crappies came on this.

I showed my 4yr old this post and now she’s all fired up for some Crappies. She also asked if she could get some cool snow pants like that for Christmas. Great post.
